For Irish business owners and finance teams

You know the work.
We know what to ask.

Your business does not need a laboratory or an R&D department to have a credible claim. The opportunity may be in the software your team could not make scale, the production process that needed repeated trials, or a formulation that resisted the obvious solutions.

We make the first step straightforward: explain what you were trying to achieve and where the technical difficulty lay. Our specialists assess the opportunity, organise the evidence requests and lead the detailed claim work alongside your accountant.

Start with 30 minutes
Discuss one or two projects, your accounting period and whether you have claimed before.
Keep your input focused
We plan technical interviews and financial requests around the people who can answer them.
Use existing records
Development notes, test results and cost records are the starting point. We identify what is missing.
Know the commitment
We explain scope, fees, deadlines and your team’s likely involvement before work begins.

Why InnoFund

An Irish claim needs
more than a calculation.

The quality of a claim rests on the connection between the science, the expenditure and the Irish tax rules. We bring those conversations together, so important judgements are not lost between advisers.

Technical substance

Find the qualifying work.

Sector specialists question the advancement, technical uncertainty and investigation behind each project.

Irish financial expertise

Build a supported number.

We examine the cost base, grants, apportionments and relevant accounting period before calculating the credit.

Compliance-led review

Challenge before filing.

The technical explanation and financial schedules are considered together, with gaps and assumptions made visible.

Accountant collaboration

Keep one coherent tax position.

We agree responsibilities with your existing accountant and prepare the information needed for the Irish Corporation Tax return.

Sound judgement includes knowing what to leave out. We explain where the evidence supports a claim, where more work is needed and where a project should not be included.

R&D in Irish businesses

Innovation happens
where the easy answers stop.

Irish R&D eligibility requires systematic investigation or experimentation in science or technology, seeking an advancement and resolving uncertainty. These project types are starting points for an assessment—not automatic entitlements.

01

Software and platforms

Difficulties in architecture, performance or scalability that require investigation beyond routine implementation.

02

Engineering and manufacturing

Prototype development, process trials and scale-up work where performance cannot be established in advance.

03

Life sciences and healthcare

Experimental work on formulations, materials, devices or analytical methods with unresolved scientific questions.

04

Food, agriculture and marine

Investigations into biological performance, shelf life, processing or new production techniques.

05

Energy and resource efficiency

Technical work on storage, recovery, treatment or efficiency where established approaches are insufficient.

06

Routes that did not work

A failed trial may be valuable claim evidence. We examine the investigation, not just the commercial outcome.

Irish R&D expenditure

Claim the right costs.
For the right period.

The credit rate is 30% for accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2024, until the newer rules apply. The 35% rate applies where the specified return date is on or after 23 September 2027—generally periods ending 31 December 2026 or later. We check your actual dates rather than applying a headline rate to every claim.

Relevant grants reduce qualifying expenditure. We review funding agreements and the tax computation together, so the claim reflects the cost your company has actually borne.

Irish guidance checked 6 September 2026: Revenue: R&D eligibility · R&D Tax and Duty Manual · Pre-filing notification. The applicable period, facts and scheme conditions must be checked for your business.

  • Employees

Assess relevant employment costs, including employer PRSI and pension contributions, against the work actually performed.

  • Materials and experimentation

Trace project materials and testing expenditure to the qualifying activity, including any subsequent saleable value.

  • Direct project costs

Distinguish costs incurred in carrying out R&D from general overheads. Rent is not automatically eligible.

  • External research

Review subcontractor and university arrangements, eligible payments and the applicable limits and notification conditions.

  • Plant and machinery

Consider the qualifying R&D use of equipment and its interaction with Irish capital allowances.

  • R&D facilities

Assess construction or refurbishment separately, including the building-use conditions and evidence required.

How we work

From a project conversation
to a claim with substance.

We set the timetable around your Irish accounting period, notification requirements and claim deadline. You have clear decisions to make, not an open-ended request for every document in the business.

  1. 01

    Scope

Understand the company, project history, accounting period and any previous R&D claims or grants.

  2. 02

    Assess

Discuss the technical work with the people who undertook it and identify the projects worth examining.

  3. 03

    Evidence

Organise the narrative and source records, separating qualifying investigation from routine delivery.

  4. 04

    Calculate

Reconcile eligible expenditure, funding and allocations with the financial records and Irish scheme rules.

  5. 05

    Review and support

Explain the final position, coordinate the CT1 filing information and provide the agreed Revenue-response support.

A service built around your resources

Expert support.
At the depth you need.

Whether you need a team to lead the claim or specialist input alongside an established process, we agree a practical division of work.

End-to-end

Full-service Irish claim

Project discovery, technical and financial assessment, evidence preparation, review and filing support in one engagement.

Alongside your accountant

Collaborative delivery

Specialist technical or costing support that complements your finance function and existing tax adviser.

Before submission

Independent claim review

A focused second opinion on project eligibility, documentation and calculations before the claim is filed.

After filing

Revenue questions and follow-up

We stay available to explain and support the claim we prepared. The engagement sets out the included response work and any separate audit, appeal or legal representation.

Good evidence starts with the project

Less reconstruction.
More useful records.

Capturing the question, the experiment and the outcome while the work is fresh can make the next claim far easier. Our evidence-led approach helps your technical and finance teams preserve the detail that explains both the project and its cost.

Keep the design revisions, trial results and decisions you already use to run the business. We help turn them into a coherent claim file, with a clear plan for any gaps. If the claim is already under scrutiny, our Irish Revenue support service can help.

Companies within Irish Corporation Tax may qualify for eligible R&D carried out in Ireland, the EEA or the UK, subject to the scheme’s conditions and foreign-deduction restrictions. We assess the company and the activity together.

No. Novelty to your business is not enough. The scientific or technological investigation matters. We discuss what was uncertain, why established knowledge did not supply a ready solution and what work your team carried out.

Not necessarily. The Irish credit has a repayable instalment mechanism. The company elects payment or treatment as a tax overpayment, subject to the applicable rules. We explain the expected timing rather than presenting the credit as immediate cash.

An R&D Corporation Tax Credit claim generally needs to be made within 12 months after the end of the accounting period in which the expenditure was incurred. It is claimed through the CT1 on ROS. Contact us early enough to assess the work and any pre-filing requirement.

For relevant periods beginning on or after 1 January 2024, first-time claimants and companies without a claim in the previous three years generally need to notify Revenue at least 90 days before making a claim. A consultation does not itself satisfy that requirement.

Potentially. The funding and tax claims need to be coordinated, not simply added together. We examine the award terms and exclude the relevant grant-funded expenditure from the R&D cost base. Our Irish innovation grants service can help plan the funding position.

Start with half an hour. The later commitment depends on the projects, record quality and complexity. We use focused interviews and existing records wherever possible and explain the likely input before engagement; we do not promise every claim can be prepared in a few hours.

Yes. We agree the technical, financial and filing responsibilities with your accountant and provide the Revenue follow-up specified in our engagement. Existing or complex interventions can be scoped through our separate claim review and Revenue support service.
