The SecuRD® methodology
Build the innovation.
Keep the proof.
The strongest explanation of a project starts while the work is happening. SecuRD® brings expert judgement and practical evidence capture into your innovation activity—so the detail is there when your business needs it.

Forward-looking by design
Less reconstruction.
More useful evidence.
By the time a claim is prepared, the people, decisions and experiments behind a project can be surprisingly difficult to reconstruct. The work may be well managed, yet the evidence needed to explain it is scattered across systems and teams.
See how SecuRD® supports our R&D tax relief claim service.
SecuRD® is InnoFund’s methodology for closing that gap. We help technical and finance teams retain the important detail as projects develop, identify questions earlier and connect the evidence to a coherent claim.
It is the evidence discipline behind our service—not a second claim process or a substitute for specialist assessment. Your team keeps building; we help make the work easier to explain and review.
SecuRD® in practice
Bring the claim perspective
closer to the project.
01
Start with the real work
Our specialists discuss the technical objectives, current knowledge and obstacles with the people doing the work. Together, we identify the questions that need investigation and the records that will help explain them.
02
Capture what matters
Keep the decisions, tests, revisions and outcomes while they are fresh. Connect those records to the people, time and costs involved, using a proportionate approach that fits how your team already works.
03
Review with perspective
Technical and financial specialists examine the story together. We identify gaps, challenge assumptions and consider how changes in the project affect the eventual claim and wider commercial position.
Designed for the people doing the work
Useful records.
Not another job for your team.
Your engineers, developers and finance team already create useful evidence: design versions, test results, meeting notes, timesheets and cost records. The first task is to understand what exists and where it is kept.
We help decide which records matter, who owns them and when a short project check-in would be useful. Tool-assisted capture can support that routine where appropriate; expert review gives the information its context.
Start with a half-hour conversation. The later time commitment depends on the projects and the quality of existing records, and we agree a proportionate approach with you before work begins.
A record of the work—not just the outcome
Keep the detail
that explains the judgement.
01
The technical question
What could not readily be resolved? Keep the starting point, alternatives considered and specialist reasoning behind the investigation.
02
The investigation
Retain trials, prototypes, design changes and failed approaches as well as successes. Record what the team learned and why the next decision followed.
03
The people and costs
Connect the work to the people involved, their input and the underlying expenditure. Technical explanations and financial records should support the same project story.
The people behind InnoFund
A methodology is only as good as the people applying it.
Scientists, engineers, software specialists and tax professionals bring different questions to the same project. That combination helps distinguish a strong explanation from an unsupported assumption—and spot where specialist input or research collaboration could move the work forward.
SecuRD®, explained
A practical fit for your business.
Start with the work and the systems you have. We can explain what a proportionate evidence approach would look like for your team.
Discuss SecuRD® arrow_outwardIs SecuRD® a separate service from preparing our R&D claim? add
SecuRD® is our approach to the evidence behind the work. It can inform an ongoing engagement or help improve preparation for a later claim. We agree the review points, support and deliverables in your scope; you are not being asked to run a second claims process.
Do we have to change our project management software? add
The starting point is how you already work. We review existing records and systems before recommending changes. Any additional tools, access arrangements or capture methods are agreed with you, with confidentiality and information handling considered.
Can you help with a project that has already started? add
Yes. We can review the records you have, identify gaps and agree a practical routine for the remaining work. Where detail is missing, we make that clear rather than presenting a later reconstruction as a contemporaneous record.
Does this mean every project will qualify for R&D tax relief? add
No. Good records help explain and assess the work; they do not make ineligible activity qualify or guarantee HMRC acceptance. SecuRD® supports the specialist judgement needed to distinguish the qualifying work and build an evidence-led position.
Can our accountant be involved? add
Yes. We connect the technical evidence to financial records and work alongside your accountant or tax adviser. Responsibilities, access and the information needed for a claim are agreed at the outset.
Does SecuRD® consider more than the next tax claim? add
Yes. Discussions can highlight questions around research collaboration, intellectual property, ownership or future commercial value. Where further work would be useful, we explain the relevant expertise and agree its scope separately.
