Combining scientific depth with practical R&D tax expertise, Jack brings a strong understanding of materials chemistry, innovation funding, and the UK R&D tax regime. Their experience includes preparing complex SME and RDEC claims, working with global and FTSE 100 businesses, securing European research funding, and contributing to published research in advanced materials.

From initial engagement calls and client workshops to final delivery on both technical writing and costing aspects of claims. He was responsible for setting up another boutique's technical writing manual and acted as the firm's tax technical and enquiry defence specialist including providing detailed legislative interpretation.

Career & experience

Jack has over six years experience within R&D Tax Credits including working on construction clients R&D claims with turnovers exceeding £3bn.

During and after his PhD Jack worked on 2D materials including graphene and phosphorene and secured funding for a 2-year research placement in Helsinki to study heterogeneous bilayer materials and composites. Jack was awarded the prestigious Marie Curie Seal of Excellence by the European Council for his research into fabricating novel nanomaterials for battery technology and solar energy harvesting. As a research fellow, he was responsible for planning, executing, and reporting his findings, with minimal supervision.

In addition to academia Jack has worked on commercialisation projects for companies such as Merck Chemicals which was ultimately supervised by Nobel Prize winner Prof K Novoselov. Jack has authored and co-authored circa 20 books and research papers including the first scalable synthesis of a phosphorus-based 2D material.
